The Young Democratic Socialists of America celebrate ceasefire at FIU (includes video story)

As the solemn two-year anniversary of the Israel-Hamas war passed, the Florida International University chapter of Young Democratic Socialists of America arranged a pro-Palestine protest at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique campus on Thursday.

The students celebrated the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, and advocated for the sovereignty of the Palestinian people. They also demanded justice and accountability from Israeli authorities.

“We will continue to fight for Palestinian right to their land,” ” said YDSA Co-Chair Lael Licht. “I think it is our responsibility as workers to continue striking, as students to continue protesting and use our power to demand accountability for the war crimes.”

FIU students who support Israel gathered towards the end of the protest, and the. two ghroups conversed.

Student Ethan Bazak explained it is true there is suffering in Gaza but that is it not all at the hands of Israel.

“Who is coming up with the information that says there is starvation and malnutrition in Gaza? The United Nations,” said Bazak. “The same United Nations that came out with a report that over 80% of the food that comes into Gaza is intercepted by Hamas.”
