The third annual Key Biscayne Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday, Feb. 1, closing out a four-day celebration of independent and international cinema that brought filmmakers, students and cinephiles together.
Starting on Jan. 29, the festival introduced the Miami community with acclaimed international films, and spotlighted Florida-based talent alongside emerging and established voices from around the world.
The festival closing day at Paradise Cinema, located on 560 Crandon Blvd., culminated in a full schedule of youth-focused programming, documentaries, and local filmmakers’ conversations. Among the standout events was the Spotlight on Youth Showcase, which featured films by local middle and high school students; among the features was Sasha Estefan-Coppola’s short film, “PI DAY.”
Also drawing strong interest was the featured documentary screening, “Naked Ambition,” by award winning filmmaker Dennis Scholl, which explores the life and legacy of iconic Miami photographer Bunny Yeager.
Founded in 2023 by Maite Garrado Thornton and Isabella Custer Edward, the festival was created to serve the local community with high quality cultural events dedicated to the cinematic arts.
“We’re really happy because we’ve hit our mission, which is to bring our community films that are uplifting — films that move you and create conversation,” said Thornton. “I think we accomplished that this year.”
