A South Florida program helps former incarcerated women rebuild their lives (includes video story)

The Ladies Empowerment and Action Program, or LEAP, has been transforming women’s lives since 2009. The nonprofit is helping formerly incarcerated women rebuild their lives by providing support with housing, employment and financial stability.

One of its most visible initiatives is the Dragonfly Boutique in South Miami, a thrift store almost entirely run by women currently or previously enrolled in the program.

“Being inside and having a program like this has really changed my life,” said Leeann Parker, assistant manager and LEAP participant.

All profits from the boutique go directly back into LEAP’s initiatives, funding housing assistance and other essential support services.

Looking ahead, the program hopes to expand its reach, assisting more women and raising awareness about the challenges of reentry.
