On Wednesday, the Lambda Tau Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. hosted their Money in the Bank Campus Plug fair as part of their week of events — called Sigma Week.
Their mission was to empower and promote black student-owned businesses on campus, which included local student chefs, art designers and clothing brands.
“I hope to achieve just gaining a following, letting people know that their are creators out there that can help you bring something to life that you may not be able to, or there’s a route for you to do it,” said Sheldon Turner, a clothing designer and owner of Shop.t3.
“It’s important because we didn’t always have these opportunities, and now we have them at our will and don’t always take advantage of them,” Turner added. “So, I feel like it’s important especially as a student because being a student can be discouraging to a lot of people— so if thy see somebody doing it, they might be more inclined to also, you know, start something they wanted to start”
