“Fake It, Till You Make It”: The Mindset Behind Success in the Music Industry (includes video story)

On Saturday Jan. 24, the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation brought its Emerging Talent Intensive program to the Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade, connecting teens with music industry professionals.

Natalia Ramirez, a three-time Latin Grammy winner who has worked with artists like Fonseca and Alejandro Sanz, shared key advice for anyone hoping to build a career in music.

“Learn a little bit of harmonies, melodies, structure of a song,” said Ramirez. “It does not have to be anything deep.”

Meanwhile, Latin Grammy nominee Nico Gonzalez, who has worked closely with Colombian Singer Camilo, mentioned that inspiration can come at any time, and that new AI tools are helping songwriters explore different sounds.

“For songwriters, it is a really useful tool, because I have seen AI take a voice note and then convert it into a song,” said Gonzalez. “It’s a good way to explore different paths with your song.”

For many teens attending the program, felt that it was a first look behind the scenes of the music business.

“I learned a lot about the behind the scenes, about music, and how music is created“ said Gabriela Mendoza, attendee.
