Liberty City celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with parade (includes video story)

On Monday, Liberty City hosted the 48th annual MLK Day Parade to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Marchers, high school bands, local officials and community leaders filled the streets as they celebrated the progress made and the work still ahead.

This year’s theme, “Don’t Give Up on the Dream,” is a tribute to King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech, which he delivered more than 60 years ago at the March on Washington. The theme reflected the activist’s vision of unity and equality for all, which resonated with parade participants.

“This right here is a melting pot,” said Anthony Durden, a member of the MLK parade committee. “It’s a reflection of Dr. King’s vision to unite the community of all ethnicities, all races, all genders.”
