The Kopenhaver Center at FIU opens doors for women in communication (includes video story)

On Thursday, the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication hosted an open house at Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus, welcoming students, faculty and other guests.

The event highlighted the center’s work supporting women pursuing careers in communication through mentorship, professional development and networking opportunities.

Since its founding in 2013, the center has been a hub for female leaders. Nearly 30,000 people have benefited from its programs. The event’s highlight was presentation of the Woman of Distinction Award to Dr. Dianne Lynch, former president of Stephens College. Also present at the function were FIU leaders, including Dr. Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver and Dean of the College of Communication, Architecture, and the Arts, Brian Schriner.

“We founded our center 12 years ago with the goal of empowering young women in all the fields of communication in order to build visionaries and leaders in their professions, and in their societies and communities,” said Kopenhaver.
