Local officials react to Trump rally shooting (includes video story)

A tragic incident in Butler, Pennsylvania earlier today as shots were fired during Donald Trump’s rally. At the time of reporting, the shooter is confirmed dead and is being investigated for attempting to assassinate the former president. At least one attendee of the rally is also dead and two are in critical condition.

Trump sustained an injury on his upper right ear but is in stable condition. He released a statement on his Truth Social platform thanking the Secret Service and Law Enforcement for their “rapid response on the shooting.”

Local politicians have released statements regarding the shooting.

Florida Senator and potential VP nominee Marco Rubio said he was “praying for President Trump and all those attending the rally,” moments after it occurred via X.

Since then, Rubio has posted a picture of the president’s signal to the crowd as the Secret Service was carrying him away, saying “God protected President Trump.”

Rubio’s colleague in the Senate, Rick Scott, stated that “this was a clear assassination attempt.”

The gunman was armed with a rifle located in an elevated building around 200 feet away from the stage. It was outside of the closed-off rally area.

Governor Ron Desantis also sent his prayers from his family to Trump’s.

City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez did the same.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levine Cava referred to the news as “reprehensible. Regardless of your political beliefs.”

Butler was the setting of Trump’s final rally before the start of the Republican National Convention on Monday.
