The Miami Marlins turned Venezuela Heritage Night into more than a celebration of baseball, honoring those affected by last month’s deadly earthquakes in Venezuela while raising support for relief efforts.
Fans who purchased special event tickets received a Venezuela Heritage jersey, with proceeds helping earthquake relief.
“Any little thing can help, so events like this, of course we want to support,” said Marlins fan Odelys Santiago.
The evening also recognized members of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1, who traveled to Venezuela to assist with rescue operations after the disaster.
“It’s humbling… to represent all the citizens of Miami-Dade County and the United States,” said task force member Brandon Webb.
After the game, fans stayed for a concert featuring popular Venezuelan music, ending the night with a celebration of the country’s culture despite the tragedy.
“There’s always light at the end… just stay strong,” Santiago said
