Dozens of volunteers in North Miami gathered at North Bayshore Park Monday morning for an annual community cleanup aimed at keeping the area clean and welcoming for residents.
“Residents and volunteers signed up on Eventbrite,” said North Miami Vice Mayor Kassandra Timothee, “and they are here cleaning up North Miami and keeping it beautiful.”
Vice Mayor Timothee hosted and promoted the event, welcoming people of all ages. She emphasized the importance of community service, especially on a day dedicated to honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.
Volunteer Ana Maria Cala said families and children worked together throughout the morning.
“Families and their children helped by cleaning and picking up trash like paper, plastic, and even the leaves from the trees to maintain the park,” she said.
Organizers say spending the holiday in service is one of the best ways to keep Dr. King’s message alive.
“It’s a reminder to folks to just give back to humanity, to give back to your local community, to your churches, to your playground, and do something that can better your community,” Timothee said.
