Celebrating its eleventh anniversary, the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival will welcome over 200 classical musicians to showcase their talents in various free events, which start this month with an opera aria night on June 27 at the Betsy on Ocean Drive and will end with a youth program hosted by Fienberg Fisher K-8 on July 28.
It will feature the return of its Fourth of July orchestra and fireworks show at Lummus Park, an immersive symphony concert at Faena Forum, an alluring performance of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” opera nights at The Betsy Hotel, and more.
“We bring artists from all over the world to perform at a variety of events,” says artistic director Michael Rossi. Typically they come to Miami during the summer for approximately 17 weeks and leave by fall.
Miami Beach just kicked off pride month Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 with a concert on Ocean Drive and 12th Street. Guests were showcased a lineup of talented performers such as singer-songwriter Envee, DJ La Trice, Nikki Valentine and more. As the night continued, tides were transformed into pride themed visuals for a stunning projection mapping display.
“We’re really into a lot of experiential and visual experiences, with our new project mapping initiatives we’re able to do buildings and just surround guests in visuals,” Rossi mentioned. Festivals accompanied by visuals will offer multiple opportunities to listen to opera’s next generation of singers.
Most performances are free and open to all ages. The Annual Independence Day Fireworks and Patriotic Concert is set for Thursday, July 4, at 8:30 p.m. at Lummus Park. The festival and the city of Miami have been working together for years. This year, their symphony orchestra and artistic director Michael Rossi will be returning.
“Every year we just keep getting bigger and bigger,” he says, adding that putting on these festivals has become more challenging through the years.
Founded in 2013, this local nonprofit festival provides affordable, world-class musical performance experiences to young artists and the South Florida community. Since its inception, the organization has helped establish Miami as a premier destination for elite young classical musicians to train and perform.
