Busway unveiled to expedite commute from Homestead to Dadeland (includes video story)

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on Wednesday unveiled a 20-mile long busway from Homestead to Dadeland South that cost more than $300 million and promises to change the way commuting works in South Dade.

The route, originally planned for a train, will be covered by 60 electric buses that will stop at 14 stations. Gates will be used to keep cars from crossing the busway, which Levine Cava hopes will expedite traffic.

“It’s a first of its kind,” said Cava. “the longest all-electric Bus Rapid Transit system in this country.”

Service begins next Monday, Oct. 27.
