Community in Miami Gardens aids in Hurricane Milton relief (includes video story)

Following Hurricane Milton’s catastrophic impact along West and Central Florida, the City of Miami Gardens hosted a donation drive in Norwood Park to collect supplies for victims in Tampa. The charity event took place from Oct. 11 through Oct. 13. It was led by Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon and Florida State Rep. Ashley Gantt of District 109.

Members of the community gave sanitary and non-perishable items, baby diapers and hygiene kits, which were shipped to Pinellas County.

Keisa Heard, a member of “Top Ladies of Distinction Inc.”, was one volunteer among many others who assisted in the drive.

“There are people who are still without lights, without water, the basic necessities,” said Heard. “Even though we weren’t hit as much and not as bad as Helene, we were able to come together and do what we can to support people in other areas who have definitely been hit a lot harder than us.”
