The first Saturday of every month, family and friends are free to attend the Miami Gold Coast Railroad Museum. It is a long-standing tradition.
No tickets or admission are required. Walk-ins are welcome to see memorabilia and full-scale exhibits of various preserved trains and monthly events.
“This first Saturday for example, we have an AV-Club from the Miami-Dade County library showing 16-miliimeter films inside one of the rail cars,” said David Lackey, an executive director at the museum. “For our next event, we’re going to have World War II reenactors throughout our entire station.”
Train rides of varying types are also available for an additional fee, Attendees can not only view the trains, but ride one as well for a fully immersive experience.
“For our younger generations, I think it’s about learning about history and learning about what our forefathers went through,” said Dennis Meyer, a frequent visitor of the museum said. “How things were a little harder for them and we could be more appreciative.”
The museum at 12450 SW 152nd St. is open Wednesday – Sunday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Adult tickets cost $12, children $10, seniors – $8 Train rides are available on weekends.
