An investigation is underway at Miami International Airport after an Amazon Air cargo plane overran the runway Monday, killing five people and injuring five others.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the plane crashed into an SUV and a minivan carrying seven people at approximately 2. p.m. It remains unclear whether the five people killed were inside either vehicle.
“The recovery of victims is most important,” said NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy. “We were able to recover the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder that is going back to the NTSB tonight in just a couple of hours.”
Homendy also said the Amazon Air cargo plane flight was part of a service contracted by 21 Air, an all-cargo airline of the United States.
In a statement released Monday the company is said to be “devastated by the accident.”
