Miami native stars in new “Mad Max” movie (includes video story)

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” stars Miami native Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, a character previously played by Charlize Theron in “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

The series creator, George Miller, specifically chose Taylor-Joy after seeing her in “Last Night in Soho,” feeling she had the right mix of mystery, timelessness and intensity. Taylor-Joy, proud of her Miami roots, said she loved Furiosa because of Theron’s portrayal and was eager to continue the story of a character she admired.

Also starring in “Furiosa” is Chris Hemsworth, who called it a dream to work with Miller.

“The more I read it – because I had the script for about two years before we started shooting – more and more ideas kept coming to mind, you know, and the less and less I was seeing him as a villain and began to sort of feel for him and empathize,” Hemsworth shared.

“Furiosa” comes out tomorrow, with early screenings tonight in South Florida and nationwide.
