Miami’s poor traffic and road conditions spell danger for motorcyclists (includes video story)

Miami is notorious for its chaotic traffic and poor road conditions, which challenge drivers of all vehicles. Riding a motorcycle, however, proves to be more dangerous than driving a car. Throughout Florida, there were more than 8,000 motorcycle accidents last year. Miami was responsible for 1,000 of those.

Motorcyclists like Jake Lakatis talk about how risky it is to safe while riding on Miami’s roads.

“The only protection you really have it what you’re wearing,” said Lakatis. “Everyone else is driving around in these multi-thousand pound vehicles and they can flatten you like a pancake.”

While riders take measures to protect themselves on the road, questions arise about the steps authorities are taking to ensure safer roadways for all drivers, particularly those more vulnerable on two wheels.
