Miami Vice Reunion returns to celebrate show’s 41st anniversary (includes video story)

“Miami Vice” fans, the original cast and crew members reunited for the second year in a row this past week in Miami Beach.

What was once a two-day celebration has now become “Miami Vice Week,” a five-day tribute to the NBC cop drama that has defined a significant part of Miami history for more than 4 decades.

Starting Sept. 9, each day was full of opportunities to revel in the show’s legacy, with events including cast and crew meet and greets, parties, filming location tours (on buses and yachts), episode screenings and an ’80s-inspired car and fashion show to cap off the week.

Stars such as Edward James Olmos (Lieutenant Martin Castillo) and Olivia Brown (Detective Trudy Joplin), were in attendance.

The Miami Vice Reunion comes from humble beginnings—the event was the idea of actor and Miami Vice fan Derek Hedlund, who wanted to preserve the show’s legacy: “‘Miami Vice” is here to stay,” he said.

Now, the Miami Vice Reunion is a weeklong event that brings fans from all over the world, and the people who made the show happen back to where it all began.
