At least three people were killed in a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego this Monday, law officials say.
Police said two teenage suspects, ages 17 and 18, were also found dead inside a nearby vehicle from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
Authorities responded to reports of an active shooter around noon at the mosque, which is the largest Islamic center in San Diego County and includes a school on its campus.
Investigators said a security guard was among those killed in the shooting. Police also said the mother of the 17-year-old suspect contacted authorities before the attack.
“She believed her son was suicidal, and she began to share information that several of her weapons were missing; her vehicle was missing, in addition to her son,” said San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl
Officials said at least one suspect left behind a note, and that hate speech was found written on a recovered weapon. Authorities are investigating the shooting as a possible hate crime and confirmed that no children at the school were injured.
