NAMI hosts mental health film festival in Cutler Bay (includes video story)

The National Alliance on Mental Illness hosted the “Reel Minds Miami Mental Health Film Festival” at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay on Sunday.

The event included an array of short films that focused on mental disorders such as anxiety, depression and less-discussed emotional phases like empty nest syndrome.

The NAMI film festival also involved exercises that promote emotional wellness.

Notable projects from the festival are, “My Week With Charlie”, an autobiographical piece about an artist struggling to make art during unlikely circumstances, and the environmentally focused, “Feeling the Apocalypse”, which explores the anxiety someone feels when living in a dying world.
