Drivers prepare for Sunday’s Daytona 500 (includes video story)

The Daytona 500, also known as the “Great American Race,” is a 500-mile-long NASCAR Cup Series motor race in Daytona Beach where drivers skillfully navigate the pack to win one of the greatest trophies in motorsport. This year, the event takes place on Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

All 45 cars participated in timed trials to create a starting order. The two fastest drivers, Kyle Busch and Chase Briscoe, qualified for the front row. Then, two 60-lap 125-mile-long races determined the rest of the order.

“We had a really good practice, being able to put some time on the car and being able to learn a couple things,” said Busch, who is a first-time pole sitter and has never seen victory lane at this event.

“Could be a total wreck fest,” said Joey Logano, duel winner and three time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, about Sunday’s race. “The duels, it’s a heat race. Everyone’s like, ‘Well, don’t tear up your car. Get what you can out of it, but don’t crash.’ And we wrecked a lot of stuff.”
