Three weeks after Hurricane Milton’s landfall, Sarasota continues to struggle with widespread damage, power outages and displaced families.
The storm left homes flooded, roads impassable and forced hundreds to seek temporary shelter. In response, local nonprofits and churches have mobilized to support affected communities with food, water and essential supplies.
“What we’re doing today is providing hot meals, as people have been affected and are without power for a couple of weeks,” said Gabriela Perez. “We had two hurricanes hitting this area, and what they need right now are hot meals.”
Food distribution centers have been set up across the county, where volunteers are working tirelessly to provide meals and groceries to families in need. Local churches are also opening their doors, transforming their spaces of worship into hubs for relief efforts.
“Our team was in Palmetto — a little further north — for two days and came down to Sarasota because we are reuniting the community to fill records of what happened to them, how they were affected, and how we can help them,” said Jose Manuel Murillo.
