Orlando is honoring the 49 victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting this week as the city comes together to mark the ten-year anniversary. The city is holding commemorative events in their honor while construction of a permanent memorial continues.
According to Mayor Buddy Dyer, this is still “one of the tough weeks out of the year for everybody here in Orlando” as the community reflects on the tragedy and offers assistance to those who are still impacted.
City Commissioner Patty Sheehan explained that it is critical to “keep that momentum going for the next 10 years” and continue to find methods to bring people together in commemoration.
Plans are in motion for a permanent memorial as Orlando reflects on the anniversary. As a tribute to those who died, portions of the original Pulse Nightclub will be kept preserved in the new structure.
