The Out of Foster Foundation held its annual “Hope Under the Stars” gala Friday night at Trump National Doral, bringing together sponsors, community members, and young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. The event raised awareness and funds to support South Florida’s foster youth.

There were awards and speeches highlighting the challenges faced by foster youth and resources provided by the foundation. The organization offers financial aid, mentorship and guidance to help young adults become independent.

Jaqueline Rodero, who entered foster care at 17, received $3000 in financial help to study criminal justice while researching human trafficking and terrorism. The foundation helped her get it.

“If it wasn’t for this organization,” Rodero said, “I would not have been able to afford it.”
