FIU students show out at Pitbull Stadium before its debut (includes video story)

Florida International University students, staff and athletes caught a glimpse of the newly-named Pitbull Stadium at the school’s First Night welcome ceremony on August 26. The stadium makes its debut on the gridiron tomorrow at 6 p.m. when the Panthers take on the Central Michigan Chippewas.

No touchdowns have been scored on the field yet, but the excitement of student Panthers was felt throughout the stands. First Night is a yearly tradition that gives incoming students the opportunity to tour the clubs, extracurriculars and other activities the university offers.

“Oh my god,” shared FIU President Kenneth Jessel when asked what he most looked forward to about the event. “Being in Pitbull Stadium . . . that was an announcement that was heard around the world.”
