“Pitch, Hit & Run” supports young players in baseball and softball (includes video story)

At Coral Gate Park in Miami, children aged 7 to 14 showcased their baseball and softball skills Saturday at Major League Baseball’s “Pitch, Hit & Run.” At the one-day competition, the young players rotated through different stations and were scored based on their performances for a chance to compete at the World Series.

“It’s an annual tradition that gets kids outside into fresh air, having a good time learning about teamwork and leadership,” said City of Miami Commissioner Ralph Rosado.

Parent Molly Madigan said opportunities like this are important for children in today’s screen-heavy environment.

“They need to get out of the house,” she said. “They need to get off their iPads, get off the TV.”

Molly’s son, Landon, said one of the best parts of the day was spending time with friends while playing baseball.

Rosado said he hopes kids leave with a greater love for the game and an understanding of competition.
