Pompano Beach residents gather at Founders Park to honor 9/11 victims and heroes (includes video story)

About 30 Pompano Beach residents gathered at Founders Park on Thursday to honor the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The ceremony was held at the Women’s Club of Pompano Beach as part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

The program included guest speakers, Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin and police Sgt. Gregory LaFleur, who shared reflections on the tragedy and the courage that followed.

“You know, for me being from New York and NYPD,”  said LaFleur, “It’s touching.”

Others spoke about the significance of 9/11, then recognized locals who have displayed acts of bravery. First responders and veterans were recognized and celebrated for continuing to serve and protect the community.

Singer Felicia Adderly performed the national anthem, and a group of musicians called Symphonic Winds dedicated their performance to the event.
