Thirteen flag-draped cases carrying the remains of the service members killed in a terror attack outside the Kabul airport gates were returned to the United States on Sunday.
It was the first transfer of bodies President Joe Biden has overseen since he took office in January.
Eleven of the service members were Marines, one was an Army soldier and one was a Navy corpsman.
These were the first U.S. troops killed in battle in Afghanistan since February 2020.
