Sentimental ring and note found in Pinellas County hurricane debris (includes video story)

In Pinellas County, a remarkable discovery was made amid the debris left by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. While sifting through a large pile of wreckage from the storms, engineering inspector Joe Kovach stumbled upon a small black box containing a ring and a note: “I was 18 when my parents gave it to me.”

“I feel like something like this wasn’t meant to be thrown in a pile like that,” said Kovach, who works for the county’s Public Works department. He believes the ring is of high sentimental value and belongs to someone in the northern regions of Pinellas, possibly from Ozona or Palm Harbor.

To protect the owner’s identity and ensure a proper return, he has refrained from showing the ring, instead requesting that the rightful owner describe it to confirm its authenticity. He hopes the search can inspire positivity amid the hurricanes’ destruction and urges anyone with information to contact county authorities via Facebook.

“Just trying to do something positive out of, obviously, something that’s affected all of our communities.”
