South Florida sports goes global after Heat and Panthers play across the world (includes video story)

This weekend, South Florida’s sports teams made an international splash as the Miami Heat and Florida Panthers played abroad. 

The Panthers defeated the Dallas Stars in Finland, a homecoming for Finnish players Alexander Barkov, Anton Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen, Niko Mikkola, and assistant coach Tuomo Ruutu. Captain Barkov celebrated scoring in his hometown, calling it “amazing”.

Meanwhile, the Heat dominated the Washington Wizards 118-98 in Mexico City, with Mexican-American player Jamie Jaquez Jr. feeling the support from local fans on Dia de los Muertos

“I couldn’t imagine this much love being shown to myself and my family.” Says Jaquez Jr. 

Both teams secured wins, sharing South Florida’s sports spirit worldwide.
