A nationwide bird flu outbreak is leading Floridians on an egg hunt across supermarkets.
The avian flu is causing poultry products, specifically eggs, to disappear from the shelves of many Publix stores.
On Wednesday, the Florida-based supermarket released a statement on the shortage, saying, “We are working to bring these products back as soon as possible,” and for customers to “check back regularly.”
The CDC is monitoring the spread of the outbreak and its risk for humans to be exposed.
“There’s still no evidence of person-to-person transmission,” said Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease specialist from the University of California, San Francisco.
Prices for eggs in the country have increased 38% since last year, a study from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.
