Spring Break canceled in many places, but not all (includes video story)

Universities across Florida have removed spring break 2021 from the academic calendar. The decision was made as an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Even though a letter from Florida International University’s Provost and Executive Vice President was shared with the University Community in October of last year, some students are still unaware of the removal. A Civil Engineering Student had no idea spring break was canceled.

“This is the first time I’ve heard, yeah,” he said.

Domestic travel to the Sunshine State has been made easier by a recently formed partnership between Miami International Airport and Southwest Airlines. When the partnership was announced in November, Daniella Levine-Cava, the mayor of Miami-Dade-County, said it was just what we need to help our economy get back to how it was, pre-pandemic.

“This is the harbinger of the return of our tourism industry, right here to South Florida,” she said.
