A coalition of 24 states and the District of Columbia have sued the Trump administration over their decision to freeze $6 billion in federal education grants.

The lawsuit, led primarily by Democratic officials, challenges the pause on money already approved by Congress for teacher training, after-school programs and other key services in low-income districts. While the political affiliations of the states are notable, leaders insist this is about constitutional authority, not party lines.

“To support our children and our families, this funding is critical,” said Massachusetts Attorney Gen. Joy Campbell, emphasizing the urgency of restoring the funds.

State officials argue the freeze is already disrupting school planning, staffing and budgeting efforts across the country.
