Deadly, powerful storms across the South and Central U.S. finally subsided Monday, but left behind widespread devastation. Since Wednesday, some areas in the South have received over a foot of rainfall, with Kentucky severely impacted. In northern Arkansas, the small town of Hardy experienced significant flooding, with the Spring River spilling over its banks and swamping homes.
The combination of flash floods, rising waters and tornado activity created a challenging situation for residents and emergency services alike.
“We have a little one and a dog, said Madding Hudson, a Nashville homeowner whose home was flooded. “My husband and I kind of just kept all we could do was watch all this, like rushing water.”
The threat from these storms is far from over, with roughly 22 million people across the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys, the Central Appalachians, and the Southeast under flood watches. Authorities continue monitoring the situation and residents are urged to stay alert as the weather conditions remain hazardous throughout the weekend.
