Fans and celebrities flocked to Florida Supercon for a weekend of fun

Florida Supercon, a major annual convention in South Florida run by ReedPop, brought in fans and celebrity voice actors this past Friday to Sunday.

Cosplayers, artists and vendors from South Florida came to the Miami Beach Convention Center to find stores, sell new products and spend time with friends.

Stephanie Nadolny, a voice actress in the popular anime cartoons “Dragon Ball Zand “Dragon Ball GT,” attended as a guest, signing autographs and taking pictures with fans each day. She worked with Plastic Universe, a toy store in Sunrise.

“This is my first time at Supercon,” said Nadolny. “I’ve enjoyed it immensely, I love South Florida. I’m booked every weekend this year, all over.”

Nadolny previously voiced the characters of Kid Goku and Kid Gohan on “Dragon Ball Z” and in several video game adaptations. She recently returned to voice Goku Mini in “Dragon Ball Daima,” the latest anime in the series. Her long career as a voice actress allowed her to travel to different conventions around the country and meet anime fans.

“That’s the greatest part of what I do, meeting the fans face to face, hanging out, talking about the show, hearing their stories,” said Nadolny. “I love traveling, so getting to travel and meet fans is just icing on the cake.”

Another voice actor who attended the convention was Sonny Strait, who voiced characters of Krillin and Bardock in “Dragon Ball Z” and Usopp in “One Piece.”

“I started off in theater, and on stage you get an instant response from the audience, but in anime, we’re just in a booth,” Strait said. “So we come out here and we get to find out what people think of our shows.”

Vendors at the convention offered a variety of products to appeal to attendees, ranging from plushies to cosplay props and video games. One of these vendors, Cybertron Video Games, sold a wide variety of video games, such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Game Boy’s.

An employee at Cybertron Video Games, Gian Molinary, shared that the convention is a major marketing opportunity. He said that over 10,000 people would be expected to visit the Cybertron booth during the convention.

“Every time we come to Supercon, it’s pretty busy for us,” he said. “I’ve done the shows before but never to this scale.”

Saturday was the most active day for Florida Supercon, with thousands wandering the show floor to see products from vendors, find others in cosplay garb and check out fan art from artists.

One attendee at Supercon, Alyssa Scott, who dressed as Tifa Lockhart from “Final Fantasy VII,” shared her thoughts on being a cosplayer and how it impacted her life.

“Cosplay to me means being creative again, like when you were a kid and playing dress-up, just with other adults who are into the same thing as you,” said Scott. “It also means community, meeting people who are into the same thing as you, and spreading that joy with other people.”

Florida Supercon plans to hold its next convention on July 10, 2026.
