School-shooting suspect Timothy Simpkins is now in police custody after facing three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Arlington, Texas.
After opening fire at the Timberview high school, injuring four, and then going on the run, Simpkins turned himself in on Wednesday afternoon.
“He did report to an attorney, started talking to our homicide detectives and he drove him into our station,” confirmed Assistant Chief Kevin Kolbye from Arlington police.
Police shared that the gun, a .45 caliber, used in the shooting has been recovered and turned over to federal agents for further investigation.
Officials also say a fight broke out between students in a classroom, and that’s when the shooting started. A student from the high school even made phone calls during the event.
“We heard glass breaking and he continued to shoot,” shared the student. “And I called my mom and told her I loved her.”
School district spokesman Donald Williams said more information will come about how the event escalated. “I do not have that information at this particular point in time, but I can assure you that we are doing a thorough, intensive investigation as it related to what transpired,” he stated.
School security in the Arlington area has been on guard after this shooting and alerted parents to be attentive to their children’s social media—-as shooting threats there could lead to arrests.
