Miramar bakery owner turned hobby into booming business (includes video story)

SweetGem Cupcakes in Miramar is owned by Jessica Castro, a former freelance graphic designer who turned her hobby into a business.

Her twin daughters, Isabella and Bianca, grew up with their mom’s baking to the point that they now work alongside their mother in the family business.

“When my daughters got to preschool, I started baking for them to take to school all the time,” Castro recalls of the beginning of her passion.

The shop offers gourmet cupcakes that are baked daily as well as other treats such as croissants, brownies and a variety of iced and hot coffees. They also offer vegan and dairy-free options. In addition, they make custom orders for birthdays, graduations and baptisms.
