The 75th NATO Summit is underway in downtown Washington, D.C., bringing extensive road closures and heightened security measures to an already tense city.
Starting yesterday and concluding July 11, checkpoints have been set up in a large swath of the city near the White House.
At the summit, world leaders from 32 nations will address support for Ukraine, reinforcing NATO’s defensive capabilities, and partnering with industry to boost production and expand the industrial base. Additionally, discussions will focus on ensuring that member countries fulfill their commitments to both national and collective defense agreements.
“We made outstanding progress in strengthening our deterrence and defense, we built on our progress from previous summits, and we’ve shown the world that NATO is stronger, larger, and more united than ever before,” stated Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
