Community mourns after three friends drown near Fort Myers (includes video story)

Three people died after two men attempted to save a drowning friend at Franklin Lock and Dam near Fort Myers this past Saturday.

Santos Tiul-Chen, a 17-year-old with no swimming experience, entered the water and foundered.

Pedro Pascal, 21, jumped in to try to save Santos but also struggled.

Victor Pedro-Gaspar, 19, also jumped in to help his friends. Despite efforts from medics, however, the three did not survive.

Neyda Velasquez, a friend of the victims, said friends and family are still in shock from the tragedy.

Gabriela Jelisse Fuentes Villafañe was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She moved to the United States when she was 12 years old. She is currently majoring in Broadcast Journalism, concentrating in Spanish. She hopes to be part of big Latino TV channels like Univision or Telemundo.
