Tensions rising for Cuba amid Trump’s recent social media posts (includes video story)

President Donald Trump is looking to Cuba after the capture of Venezuela’s leader Nicolás Maduro. The island is on the list of countries facing a possible U.S intervention.

Additionally, on a TruthSocial post this past Sunday, Trump stated no more oil or money from Venezuela will go to Cuba until a deal is done.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel responded he has had no conversation with the U.S and posted on X that “no one tells Cuba what to do.”

Despite Trump’s remarks about cutting off Cuba completely, the U.S is still allowing Mexico to give oil to Cuba as humanitarian aid.

The situation in Venezuela and Trump’s words have Cubans around the world worried about what could happen next. Some Cubans see the possibility of an intervention as a sign of political change in Cuba, but concern lingers.

Pedro Solares is retired Cuban bank worker who has been living in the U.S for 60 years. Even though he doesn’t have family on the island anymore, he hopes for change while also worrying about the living conditions and the U.S relationship with Cuba could worsen.

“There is hope, but it’s a hope that comes with lots of pain and even deaths,” Solares said. “So there is hope, it’s just harsh hope.”

There is no plan for the U.S set in stone yet, but on Jan. 11 President Trump posted on TruthSocial a screenshot of an X post that jokingly called Marco Rubio the President of Cuba, to which Trump replied “Sounds good to me!”
