From March 9 to 11, Republicans met at Trump National Doral Miami for an annual conference to coordinate their agenda ahead of the midterm elections, but returned to Washington, D.C., without concrete public policy decisions. The state became a key location for these types of political gatherings because of its electoral importance and its growing influence within the Republican Party.

The meeting comes as lawmakers in Congress debate over several major issues, including immigration, government funding, foreign policy and housing legislation.

Michigan Rep. Lisa McClain said Republicans are “on the right side” by supporting the deportation of violent criminals and said the party wants to close the border and strengthen security in communities.

Former President Donald Trump appeared Monday to discuss the ongoing conflict with Iran, describing it as a “military intervention” that, according to him, will end soon.

Party leaders say the discussions will help define the Republican message heading into the midterm elections, where control of the U.S. House of Representatives will be at stake.
