Trump delivers address at U.N. General Assembly, warns of “annihilation” of Iran (includes video story)

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, where he threatened Iran with “annihilation of the Islamic Republic” if no agreement is reached by the end of the U.S. midterms.

“From the first day I entered the political arena, I’ve been unwavering,” he said. “I will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”

From his position on the podium the president also touted the deal he struck with Venezuela to take majority control over a portion of the country’s oil reserves–a deal Venezuela’s Interim President Delcy Rodríguez said would have a “significant impact on the nation’s revival.”

Several Venezuelan Americans gathered outside the U.N. in New York to protest Rodríguez’ involvement.

“We wanted Maduro out, and we wanted an actual change to go into democratic votes,” says Venezuelan American Miguel Duque. “What it looks like here is that the democratic votes are not happening. We were promised another president, and we didn’t get what we elected.”

The president also brought up Cuba, calling it an “absolutely failed state,” and explained that Secretary of State Marco Rubio was in talks to pursue “a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba.”

“It will fall,” said Trump.

The Cuban delegation left the room as he continued his comments.
