U.S. Congress avoids a government shutdown (includes video)

The government will not shut down. Last night, President Joe Biden signed a funding bill that was passed by lawmakers on Capitol Hill — just hours before the shutdown deadline at midnight.

The stopgap bill funds federal agencies through December 3.

President Biden’s larger and ambitious domestic agenda remains in limbo. There is a standoff between moderates and progressives in the Democratic-controlled house.

Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, two moderate Senators, hold the key to passage.

Manchin said he told President Biden he would agree to a $1.5 trillion deal, which is a lot less than the $3.5 trillion proposed.
