A first-time voter is ready to exercise her right this election season for the first time in almost two decades.
Newly-naturalized citizen Maria Balboa was undocumented for over 18 years after moving from Argentina to the United States.
During that time, she couldn’t vote due to her residency status but actively participated in canvassing activities to emphasize the importance of heading to the polls.
“I used to always say, ‘Your vote is my voice,'” said Bilbao. “Now I feel that my vote is the voice of my friend Berta, who has been undocumented for 23 years.”
