New evidence released in UnitedHealthcare CEO murder case (includes video story)

New evidence in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson may identify the suspect and their motives, authorities say.

On Thursday, authorities released surveillance footage showing a man they say is wanted for questioning in connection with the crime. The video, taken at a hostel, captures the suspect pulling down his mask and smiling at a female employee.

Law enforcement officials say the footage is part of a growing body of evidence that may help piece together a timeline leading to an eventual arrest. Police now believe the suspect traveled by Greyhound bus from Atlanta to New York, possibly to evade detection.

In addition to the surveillance video, investigators have uncovered other key items, like a burner phone and water bottle dropped at the scene, the latter of which was found to have a smudged fingerprint. Officials also disclosed that the words “depose” and “delay” were found inscribed on a shell casing and live round at the crime scene.

The phrase, “Delay, deny, defend,” is a well-known slogan in the insurance industry, which may offer further insight into the suspect’s possible motives or connections.
