As Monday night’s national championship game approaches, ticket prices have become a deciding factor for University of Miami students planning to attend.
Ticket prices in the days leading up to the game have risen as high as $20,000, causing students to balk.
“I went to the semifinals and spent $90 on that ticket compared to $500 for a seat in the student section at the national championship,” UM student Ahmed Azaiza said, “which is a lot more and out of my price range.”
He also expressed frustration over Hard Rock Stadium’s policy banning non-ticket holders from tailgating after kickoff and charging $700 to park.
“Yeah, it definitely sucks,” said Azaiza. “Since I’m not going to the game, I at least wanted to tailgate, and now I can’t even do that, so I’ll be watching it from home.”
Meanwhile, UM student Anthony Crespo was fortunate enough to secure a free ticket to the championship in the student section 106, a seat that is currently going for around $18,000. However, he also noted that parking at Hard Rock Stadium remains expensive, even with admission covered.
“Parking at the stadium is just as bad as the ticket prices,” said Crespo.
He also shared his insight on the game since he will be in attendance: “We’re gonna finish strong because we’ve had a whole season of being doubted.”
