Political tensions impact Venezuela’s Gen Z (includes video story)

In the last decade, South Florida has seen an increase in Generation Z Venezuelans as government tensions rise in the South American country. Many young migrants still experience the impact of political unrest back home and the culture shock of the move to America.

“We struggled with insecurities,” said Florida International University alumna Victoria Espinoza.

After migrating to the U.S. five years ago, she and her family struggled to adapt to Miami’s fast-paced environment while processing the decline of her homeland.

Political and governmental collapse remains a real fear for these young Venezuelans, with the recent, disputed election of Nicolás Maduro as president sparking more concern.
