A newly released video shows a Carroll police officer on the hood of a car as the driver attempts to run away during a 2021 chase in Iowa.
Officer Patrick Mccarty told a passenger in the vehicle, Dennis Guider Jr., that there was a warrant for his arrest when Guider jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off.
As the car kept moving, McCarty jumped on the hood while other officers continued to arrive at the scene. McCarty eventually fell to the ground and broke his back when the vehicle hit a ditch.
Guider was arrested and pleaded guilty to serious injury by a car. He claimed he feared for his life when McCarty pulled out his gun. Guider has been sentenced to five years in prison.
