Fourth annual Voces del Periodismo awards at FIU Biscayne Campus (include video story)

FIU celebrated the fourth anniversary of Voces del Periodismo, an event hosted by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists that supports and recognizes journalists for their work.

There were three categories for this year’s awards: written reportage, video reportage, and photo reportage. Students submitted their work to be evaluated in each of these categories.

“Voces Del Periodismo means ‘voice’ and that is what we do every day. We are a voice for those who don’t have one,” said Carolina Sarassa. “I think it’s great to see a lot of students because they are students, but they also are given recognition for their work.”

Carolina Sarassa and Erik Cuesta, two accomplished journalists with extended careers, hosted the awards. Others involved in setting it up were journalists Pamela Silva, Erika Carrillo, Mercedes Vigon and Juan González.

Voces del Periodismo is held every year, and journalism students from all over South Florida can attend.
