Individuals with special needs got their own prom earlier this month in Little Haiti, as part of Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine event.
The annual event, now in its fifth year, was hosted by members of the Vous Church at the Magic City Innovation District on Feb. 7. Attendees received hair, makeup, shoe shines and everything else they needed to look their best.
The church, which has locations in Little Haiti and Wynwood, was one of 720 organizations worldwide that put on the event. Outreach Director Jamila Pereira said the combination of effort from the Tim Tebow Foundation and church servant leaders made it all possible. Pereira said she remembered her very own prom night and how it made her want to celebrate each and every promgoer.
Throughout the evening guests were seen accompanied by their escorts, many of whom were Vous servant leaders, dancing the night away. This was the second year Vous Church’s helped organize the soiree. Servant Leader Rick Beaudoin, who worked shining shoes, said he marveled at the importance of service and outreach to the community.
The dance floor swarmed with guests moving to the rhythm of love and acceptance.
